GUEST CURATOR

JESSICA
DE RUITER

Jessica de Ruiter came of age as an editor and stylist during fashion’s golden era, spending more than two decades at Condé Nast publications and as a freelance stylist. Today, living between Los Angeles and her native Toronto, the mother and longtime fashion insider is increasingly turning her eye toward interiors, working alongside her husband, designer Jed Lind.

The transition feels natural. Jessica approaches a room much as she does a look—through proportion, texture, intuition and years of knowing what to leave out. Her world is understated and tactile: natural fabrics, nuanced neutrals and spaces that feel lived in rather than overly designed. Before bringing anything new into her wardrobe or home, she has a simple rule: “I always sleep on it.” If she still loves it the next day, she knows it has a place in her life.

She feels most creative when she makes time to reset and reflect—morning hikes in nature, movement, good sleep and sunshine. At the same time, she’s embracing a decidedly old-school rhythm: print magazines and newspapers, pen and paper, photographs taken with an actual camera and an analog clock beside her bed.

Perhaps unsurprisingly for someone who has spent a lifetime editing, Jessica’s own style comes down to knowing herself: “True style comes from knowing oneself. And knowing oneself takes years of inward inquiry.”

2. Eres swimwear- These bathing suits last forever and never go out of style. I have bikinis from fifteen years ago that I still wear and some I am now passing onto my teenage daughter. They are the new family heirloom.
